Why do you lie about what you want?

When I was a corporate weapon, the reason CEOs always sought me out for my counsel is because I am brutally honest.

I say the truth to them when no one around them wants to say it, when their yes-men are useless in doling out helpful perspectives because of their own fears of being discarded.

What is useful for a leader is the truth.

I know you’re reading this because you’re tired of lying about who you really are in the back of your mind. In the pit of your soul, you know there’s something deranged about the constant thrum of a requirement to pretend to be something you ache not to be, albeit temporarily. Roles: boss, employee, entrepreneur, parent, spouse: responsible. Obligations. Expectations. Relentless and exhausting.

We lie because those who love us see us as we’ve always performed. But I will care for you precisely because you tell me the truth about what you crave; what thing/feeling/experience makes you actually feel free, if only for a little bit. I want you to come to me stumbling in for a tune up, an attitude adjustment, a dose of release.

Most people will never understand why you seek me or someone like me out. Most people will never be as honest with themselves as you when it comes to identifying and getting what you need. So you can continue to step into the roles expected of you without losing your mind.

Release your mind into my hands for a moment and feel the calm; the freedom of being no one, except my toy.
